As most of you know I play the piano and love it. I was so excited to buy our first piano (and probably only piano – unless Charlie gives in to a baby grand) this past summer. It’s so fun to be able to sit down and play whenever I feel like it, especially Christmas music. Anyway, lately I’ve been scanning slides for my parents and today ran across this picture.

Rachel a sleep on the piano bench
This picture reminded me of those days in which I detested practicing. I started taking lessons when I was 4 and remember not being able to reach the ground, thus dangling my feet off of the bench. I also remember having to practice everyday before playing with friends or going outside. Sometimes I’d cheat on my time and turn the egg-timer while my mom wasn’t looking (bet I fooled her). At some point in my piano “career,” practicing turned from a chore to a pleasure. I’m grateful for parents who started me in piano lessons and made me practice. Music has truly blessed my life!
I could write the same story about our house. I totally remember that piano and where it was in your first Salem house. . . crazy that you were so little/we were so little. Doesn’t seem that long ago. . .
That picture is adorable! I’ve been wondering what the best age is to begin teaching Collin to play–he’s always messing around on our keyboard (no full-sized piano yet!). I’m thinking that once he can read easily that I’ll get him going. I always wish that I had stuck with it for longer!
That picture is a keeper! Such a good lesson to show your kids someday, practicing may seem daunting but it always pays off in the end! I wish I had been more dilligent in my practicing, maybe, if I had, I wouldn’t struggle so in Relief Society! (ha ha- it’s just my darn nerves!)
I love that piano, wish I could have such a classic one.
